Juliano Tebinka, Co-Founder & Chief Data Officer, InHire
Introduction
InHire is a fast-growing technology company that has carved out a niche as the "Greenhouse for Brazilian companies." Their full-featured Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is designed to help businesses recruit and select top talent efficiently within one platform, instead of cobbling together multiple tools. From the beginning, InHire differentiated itself with a strong focus on leveraging AI and real-time data analytics to give its customers a competitive edge in the fast-paced world of recruitment.
The Challenge: A Looming Data Crisis
InHire built its platform on a modern, serverless architecture using DynamoDB as its primary transactional database. While excellent for application performance, DynamoDB is not suited for the complex analytical queries needed to power dashboards and AI models. To solve this, the team used a separate analytics database that included native connectivity to DynamoDB and it worked well for them. Unfortunately, the company behind that analytics database was acquired. The acquiring company didn’t plan to continue providing the service, and a short window of just a few months was given before the product.
"We ended up in a very tough situation," explains Juliano, co-founder and Chief Data Officer at InHire. "We had a hard deadline before our existing solution was shut down. We couldn't afford to not have this data infrastructure."
The team urgently needed a new solution that could:
- Provide true real-time data streaming from DynamoDB.
- Automatically handle schema evolution as their application schema changes regularly.
- Perform in-flight data transformations to simplify complex JSON and mask sensitive data.
- Simple implementation and management without a large data engineering team.
The Solution: Finding a Partner, Not Just a Product
InHire evaluated several options, including Fivetran, Airbyte, Confluent and other large enterprise tools. However, they found these solutions couldn't meet their core real-time requirements, were too rigid, or were prohibitively expensive and slow to engage with.
The search led them to Streamkap. "I sent a chat message on a Saturday evening, not expecting a reply," Juliano recalls. "Someone responded almost immediately. That was instrumental. We realized we would get the support we needed."
This support was backed by a strong technical fit. Streamkap was the only solution that met all of InHire's criteria out of the box. The implementation was remarkably fast. "We did the entire implementation—connecting the source, destination, and building transformations—in about three weeks, and we did it with no one from our side. We didn't have a data engineer," says Juliano.
Powering AI and Business Impact with Real-Time Data
With Streamkap providing a reliable, sub-second data pipeline, InHire has been able to build and enhance features that are central to its business success.
1. Fueling Critical AI-Powered Screening
A key differentiator for InHire is its AI agent that automatically screens new candidates. In the tech industry, top talent is off the market in days, if not hours.
"If you lose one or two days, you might lose the best candidate," Juliano notes. "Our AI screening demands real-time data. Streamkap ensures that as soon as a candidate applies, our AI can process them, giving our customers a crucial speed advantage."
2. Delivering a Superior Real-Time User Experience
Recruiters using InHire manage candidates on a Kanban-style board. When they drag a candidate from one stage to another, the action is written to DynamoDB. Streamkap instantly replicates this change to the analytics database that powers the UI, ensuring the entire system reflects the change in under 200ms. This seamless experience is vital for user satisfaction and productivity.
3. Unlocking New Revenue and Customer Value
The stable, real-time data foundation has become a platform for innovation. InHire launched a self-service reporting module that allows their customers to build and schedule their own custom reports.
"Previously, our clients had to manually export data to spreadsheets every Friday," says Juliano. "Now, they build a report once, schedule it, and it's delivered automatically. This is only possible because of the data infrastructure we have with Streamkap."
The Business Impact: Agility, Focus, and Zero Data Engineers
For InHire, Streamkap’s impact goes far beyond just moving data.
- Massive Resource Savings: By handling all the complex "data plumbing," Streamkap has enabled InHire to operate and innovate on its data stack with zero full-time data engineers. This allows them to invest resources directly into product development and customer-facing features.
- Unmatched Agility: When InHire decided to add Databricks as a new destination to build a silver/gold data model, the process was simple. "It was as easy as adding a new destination in Streamkap," Juliano says. "In just a few days, we had data flowing, a process that other solutions quoted as a major, costly project."
- Strategic Focus: "Having Streamkap as a partner allows us to focus on what we're good at: understanding the recruitment industry," Juliano concludes. "We don't have to worry about the complexities of data transport. We know the data will be where we need it, when we need it."
