Introducing the Streamkap MCP Server: Connect AI Agents to Real-Time Data
The Streamkap MCP Server lets AI agents query pipeline status, monitor data flows, and interact with streaming infrastructure through the Model Context Protocol standard.
AI agents are becoming a standard part of data engineering workflows. They help teams debug pipelines, answer questions about system health, and automate repetitive operational tasks. But until now, connecting those agents to live streaming infrastructure has required custom glue code, fragile API wrappers, and a lot of guesswork.
Today we are launching the Streamkap MCP Server, a native implementation of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) that gives AI agents direct, standardized access to your Streamkap pipelines. If you use Claude Desktop, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible tool, you can now ask questions about your streaming data infrastructure and get real answers backed by live data.
What Is MCP and Why Does It Matter?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard originally developed by Anthropic for connecting AI models to external data sources and tools. Think of it as a universal adapter layer between an AI agent and the services it needs to interact with. Instead of writing bespoke integrations for every tool, MCP provides a shared interface that any compatible agent can use.
Before MCP, if you wanted an AI assistant to check your pipeline status, you would need to write custom API calls, format the responses, and handle authentication manually. Every new tool meant another integration to build and maintain. MCP changes this by defining a common protocol for tool discovery, invocation, and data retrieval. An agent that speaks MCP can connect to any MCP server and immediately understand what capabilities are available.
This is especially important for data infrastructure. Streaming pipelines are complex systems with many moving parts: source connectors, destination connectors, topic configurations, throughput metrics, error states, and more. Giving AI agents a structured way to access all of this information turns them from general-purpose chatbots into actual operational assistants.
What the Streamkap MCP Server Does
The Streamkap MCP Server exposes your pipeline data and controls through the MCP standard. Once connected, an AI agent can:
- Query pipeline status in real time, including whether pipelines are running, paused, or in an error state
- Check connector health for both source and destination connectors across all your pipelines
- Retrieve throughput metrics like records per second, bytes transferred, and lag measurements
- Inspect configurations for connectors, topics, and transformation rules
- List and describe resources so agents can discover what is available without prior knowledge of your setup
The server acts as a bridge between your Streamkap account and any MCP-compatible client. It handles authentication, translates requests into Streamkap API calls, and returns structured data that agents can reason about.
Key Capabilities
Pipeline Monitoring
Ask your AI agent “Are any of my pipelines behind?” and get a direct answer. The MCP server exposes real-time pipeline state, including consumer lag, last record timestamps, and error counts. This means you can use natural language to check on infrastructure that would normally require logging into a dashboard or writing API queries.
Connector Health Checks
Each connector in a Streamkap pipeline, whether it is a PostgreSQL source or a Snowflake destination, reports its own health status. The MCP server surfaces this information so agents can tell you which connectors are healthy, which are degraded, and which need attention. This is especially useful during incident response when you need answers fast.
Metrics and Throughput
The server provides access to key performance indicators for your pipelines: records processed, bytes moved, latency between source change and destination delivery, and historical trends. Agents can use this data to answer questions like “What was my average throughput over the last hour?” or “Has latency increased since yesterday’s deployment?”
Configuration Inspection
Need to know which tables a connector is tracking, or what transformations are applied to a pipeline? The MCP server can retrieve configuration details so agents can answer these questions without you navigating through settings pages. This is particularly helpful for teams managing dozens of pipelines where keeping track of every configuration manually is not practical.
Example Use Cases
Conversational Pipeline Management with Claude
Connect the Streamkap MCP Server to Claude Desktop and treat your streaming infrastructure like a conversation. Ask Claude to list all active pipelines, check if a specific connector is healthy, or summarize throughput for the past 24 hours. Claude will call the MCP server behind the scenes and return a clear, readable answer. No dashboards, no context switching.
For example, you might ask: “Is the PostgreSQL to Snowflake pipeline running, and what is the current lag?” Claude will query the MCP server, pull live data, and respond with the exact status and lag measurement.
CI/CD Agent Integration
If you run AI-powered agents as part of your deployment pipeline, the MCP server lets those agents verify data infrastructure health before and after deployments. An agent can confirm that all pipelines are running normally before a release goes out, or check for increased error rates after a schema change. This adds a layer of automated verification that catches issues before they reach production dashboards.
Automated Monitoring and Alerting
Build agent workflows that periodically check pipeline health and flag anomalies. Unlike static threshold alerts, an AI agent can consider context: is a spike in latency expected because of a known batch load, or does it signal a real problem? By connecting to the MCP server, monitoring agents get the raw data they need to make these judgments.
Team Onboarding and Self-Service
New team members can ask an AI agent about pipeline configurations instead of digging through documentation or bothering senior engineers. “What sources feed into our analytics warehouse?” or “Which pipelines use CDC from the orders database?” become questions any team member can answer instantly through their AI tool of choice.
Getting Started
Setting up the Streamkap MCP Server takes just a few steps:

Generate API credentials in your Streamkap dashboard. You will need a Client ID and Client Secret.

Choose your deployment mode. The recommended approach is remote mode, which connects directly to the hosted server at

- Start asking questions. Once connected, your AI agent will automatically discover available Streamkap tools and resources. Try asking about pipeline status or connector health to verify the connection.

Part of Our Agent-First Strategy
The MCP Server is a key piece of Streamkap’s broader vision for agent-first data infrastructure.
